“I Promise” was written following a period of time when I felt let down by someone who had already let me down in the past. The bridge of the song was the first part of the song that I wrote, and I wanted to capture the feeling of knowing someone is lying to you but you still have to beg them to tell you the truth. The first verse was written about how the older I get, and the more difficult experiences I encounter, the more I appreciate the smaller things people can do for you. The choruses are meant to reflect the feeling of wishing you could go back in time and change the ending of a trying situation. “I Promise” is the most personal song I have written and is the most honest I have ever been in my songwriting. The song encapsulates the feeling of wanting to shake a gut feeling that deep down you know is true and finally giving up on somebody who you can’t trust. This track was recorded at PowerStation NE alongside the incredible musicians Doug Yowell, Pete Donnelly and Teddy Kumpel.
